BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
Kunal Ghosh has filed a defamation case against the father of a deceased doctor, referred to as 'Abhaya.' The lawsuit was filed in Bankshal Court, stemming from allegations the father recently made in the media, claiming that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had taken bribes to suppress the investigation into his daughter's death.
The complaint alleges that during a recent media address, Abhaya's father made inflammatory and unsubstantiated claims. He reportedly stated that “the CBI took money and suppressed the investigation” and that “the state government paid the CBI.” The father also made a shocking accusation that Kunal Ghosh personally went to the CGO Complex and "settled" the matter by paying a bribe.
This legal action comes after Kunal Ghosh had already sent a legal notice to the father through his lawyer, Ayan Chakraborty. The notice, which was sent last Tuesday, gave the father a four-day deadline to hold a press conference and publicly apologize for his defamatory remarks. The notice had also stated that if he failed to do so, legal action would be pursued.
With the specified four-day time frame now expired, and no public apology from the father, Kunal Ghosh's legal team proceeded with the defamation suit on Wednesday. The filing of the case indicates Ghosh's firm resolve to counter the allegations and seek legal recourse for the claims made against him in the public domain.
Despite the initiation of the lawsuit, Kunal Ghosh conveyed his sympathy and full respect for the father, acknowledging his grief. However, he also stated that "they cannot just say whatever comes to their mind or whatever they are taught to say." He asserted that if the father does not offer an apology, he will have to appear in court and provide evidence to substantiate his claims.
The father’s sensational allegations against the state government and the CBI were initially made during a "Nabanna Abhiyan" protest organized by the deceased doctor's parents on August 9. The case now shifts from a public protest to a legal battle, and the future proceedings will be closely watched to see how the court handles these grave and sensitive allegations.
